8" DROP/RISE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION HITCH

Part #: 3380

I have had a love/ hate relationship with this hitch. There are so many pros with just a few cons in my opinion. Before purchasing a hitch I tried some of the more popular hitches that use the conventional “spring bar.” I had a difficult time aligning up the hitch just right to get both spring bars aligned correctly and it took a significant amount of force to lift the bar into place. The Anderson hitch takes those bars out of the equation and just uses more lightweight chains.

Pros for the Anderson WD Hitch:
- Lightweight
- You do not need to take the chains off to backup the trailer
- You have more of a silent ride when towing
- The hitch aspect of the system is a lot slimmer and smaller profile. With the other traditional “bar” systems the hitch attachment is so wide I could not use the backup camera/ sensors as it would always alarm saying I was hitting something when it was the hitch setting the alarm off.
- With the 8” drop I can easily flip the hitch to make it a drop or a raise with just moving two bolts that are easily adjustable

Cons for the Anderson WD Hitch:
- There are tricks to tighten the chains and get the correct tension for the WD aspect to work properly. If the brackets move or you change from one vehicle to another one side can be tighter than another and adjusting can be a pain.
- One trick is the raise the hitch high enough so you do not need to loosen the chains but if you lift it too high you might damage your trailer jack
- There are times the wedge used to attach the chains gets off-center and adjusting it right to left (especially if the trailer is already attached) can take multiple adjustments and is time-consuming.

Final thoughts:

  • I love my Anderson WD Hitch and would purchase it again in a heartbeat. There are some inconveniences at times but there are many large advantages and pros that definitely outweigh the cons in my perspective.
